As the meeting and events industry takes the route out of lockdown and begins welcoming clients back to hosting events, we thought we would introduce you to some key team members who have been working behind the scenes throughout the pandemic and are now back and taking event bookings for 2021 and beyond.
Meet Adrian Lowe, General Manager. We asked Adrian to share some insights into what it’s like working at Keele University Events and Conferencing over the last 18 months:
What are the main parts to your role at KUEC?
To be part of my fantastic team to operationally deliver the events and catering within commercial conferencing and events at KUEC.
How has your role changed/developed in the last 12 months?
Given the downturn in business, I have been lucky enough to be involved in supporting the university through the challenges of maintaining basic services & remobilising the campus throughout the pandemic. This has involved working within different workstreams and project groups, which has been really interesting! I have met lots of new people who I would normally not engage with which has been absolutely great!
If you were furloughed, what did you do during that time? Did you finally do something you’ve been meaning to do for years? Did you find a new hobby?
I have been lucky enough not to be furloughed throughout the pandemic.
What are you most looking forward to about KUEC reopening for business?
Doing things very differently; our teams have been working tirelessly throughout the downtime on new menus, marketplace benchmarking and as a result we have seen new ideas and refreshed ways of working which I am really looking forward to seeing come alive once we re-open.
I can’t wait to see our customers old and new and trialling some of our new menus and improved services.
What do you hope for the next 12 months at KUEC?
I do hope that we can start to get back to a “new normal” with a re-energised team who are clearly up for doing something very different.
We have a few weddings booked in within the next couple of weeks and I am really keen to see how these operationally work; I am really excited at the prospect of having customers back with us. I do think the pandemic has made everyone stop and think about how we need to work differently? Our staff are slowly returning to the business with new ideas and a fresh mind; I am already seeing a really positive culture & attitude developing amongst the team with eagerness to get back to it.
