Meet Carol Summerfield, our Events & Conferencing Executive

As the meeting and events industry takes the route out of lockdown and begins welcoming clients back to hosting events, we thought we would introduce you to some key team members who have been working behind the scenes throughout the pandemic and are now back and taking event bookings for 2021 and beyond.

Meet Carol Summerfield, Conference and Event Sales Executive. We asked Carol to share some insights into what it’s like working at Keele University Events and Conferencing over the last 18 months:

What are the main parts to your role at KUEC?

“I am responsible for weddings, banquets, and many other personal occasions. As an experienced Event Manager I work very closely with the Business and Development Sales team to deliver high end commercial events and to also be pro-active in obtaining repeat business and all clients.”

How has your role changed/developed in the last 12 months?

Obviously our current role has had to take a step back due to the pandemic, however I have not been twiddling my thumbs! I have been seconded to support the University in our delivery and on-site support for the Staff and Students. Making the campus COVID 19 legal and also supporting at the asymptomatic test site – I am the COVID Queen!”

What did you do during your time on furlough? Did you finally do something you’ve been meaning to do for years? Did you find a new hobby?

“During my time on furlough, I had two teenage children to home school and support. At one point my neighbours did think I was having a yard sale due to the amount of items spread out on the drive from the day we tidied out the Man Cave! We have also made close friends with our neighbours due to the pandemic which has been a great bonus.”

What are you most looking forward to about KUEC reopening for business?

Getting the team back together and bringing lots of business here to Keele.”

What do you hope for the next 12 months at KUEC?

Some normality again with lots of successful events and to put Keele back on the map again.”
